CAUSE IRRITATION TO THE EYES, NOSE AND THROAT. DIFFICULT IN
BREATHING MAY OCCUR. ACID SPLASHED IN THE EYES/SKIN MAY CAUSE
BURNS. LEAD MAY CAUSE WEAKNESS, VOMITING , LOSS OF APPETITE,
UNCOORDINATED BODY MOVEMENTS, CONVULSIONS, STUPOR AND POSSIBLY
COMA. CHRONIC OVEREXPOSURE: ACID MAY CAUSE SKIN AND EYE IRRITATION.
MISTS MAY CAUSE EROSION OF THE TEETH, INFLAMMATIO N OF THE NOSE,
THROAT AND BRONCHIAL TUBES. LEAD MAY CAUSE WEAKNESS, INSOMNIA,
HYPERTENSION, SLIGHT IRRITATION TO SKIN AND EYES, METALLIC TASTE IN
MOUTH, ANEMIA, CONSTIPATION, HEADACHE, MUSCLE AND JOIN T PAINS,
KIDNEY AND CNS DAMAGE.
Explanation of Carcinogenicity:CONTAINS LEAD.
Effects of Overexposure:SULFURIC ACID MAY CAUSE IRRITATION TO THE EYES,
NOSE AND THROAT. DIFFICULT IN BREATHING MAY OCCUR. ACID SPLASHED IN
THE EYES/SKIN MAY CAUSE BURNS. LEAD MAY CAUSE WEAKNESS, VOMITING,
LOSS OF APPETITE, UNCOORDINATED BODY MOVEMENTS, CONVULSIONS,
STUPOR AND POSSIBLY COMA.
Medical Cond Aggravated by Exposure:NOT PROVIDED
First Aid
First Aid:EYES: WASH IMMEDIATELY WITH LARGE AMOUNT OF WATER. LIFTING
THE LOWER AND UPPER LIDS CONTINUOUSLY. GET MEDICAL ATTENTION. SKIN:
IMMEDIATELY FLUSH THE EXPOSED AREA OF THE SKIN WITH LARGE AMOUNT OF
WATER . REMOVE ANY CONTAMINATED CLOTHING. GET MEDICAL ATTENTION.
INHALATION: REMOVE EMPLOYEE FROM AREA OF EXPOSURE. IF BREATHING HAS
STOPPED PERFORM CPR. GET IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION. INGESTION:
FOR SULF URIC ACID. GIVE EMPLOYEE LARGE AMOUNT OF WATER IF
CONSCIOUS. DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. GET MEDICAL ATTENTION. FOR LEAD,
GET IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION.
Fire Fighting
Extinguishing Media:USE DRY CHEMICAL EXTINGUISHER. BATTERY CASE WILL
BURN.
Fire Fighting Procedures:USE OF WATER IN EXTINGUISHING BURNING
BATTERIES MAY CAUSE SPATTERING DUE TO THE PRESENCE OF MOLTEN LEAD.
Unusual Fire/Explosion Hazard:WHILE BATTERY IS BEING CHARGED, HYDROGEN
GAS IS PRODUCED. BATTERY MAY EXPLODE IF HYDROGEN GAS IS TRAPPED
INSIDE THE BATTERY CASE. KEEP IGNITION SOURCES AWAY.
Accidental Release
Spill Release Procedures:SHOULD A BATTERY BREAK OPEN, ISOLATE THE AREA.
ELECTROLYTE SHOULD BE ABOSRBED WITH A NON-ORGANIC TYPE ABSORBENT
SUCH AS DRY SAND OR EARTH. AVOID DILUTION WITH WATER. LEAD SPILLED
FROM THE BATTERY SHOU LD BE HEPA VACUUMED OR WET MOPPED. DO NOT DRY
SWEEP OR USE COMPRESSED AIR. USE SODA ASH OR BAKING SODA TO
NEUTRALIZE THE ELECTROLYTE.
Neutralizing Agent:SODA ASH OR BAKING SODA
Handling
Handling and Storage Precautions:NOT PROVIDED
Other Precautions:UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS OF USE EXPOSURE TO LEAD OR
LEAD CONTAINING COMPOUNDS DOES NOT OCCUR. SHOULD A BATTERY BREAK
OPEN AND A LEAD SPILL OCCURS. PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN TO
PREVENT LEAD DUST FROM BECOMING AIR BORNE. TO CLEAN UP, USE
RESPIRATOR, RUBBER GLOVES AND GOGGLES. AVOID THE USE OF UNINSUL
ATED TOOLS.
Exposure Controls
Respiratory Protection:UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS OF USE RESPIRATORY
PROTECTION IS NOT REQUIRED. HOWEVER, SHOULD CONDITIONS ARISE WHERE
RESPIRATORS ARE NEEDED, USE ONLY NIOSH/MSHA RESPIRATORS APPROVED
FOR DUST, FLAME AND MIST.
Ventilation:BATTERY CHARGING AREAS MUST BE ADEQUATELY VENTILATED TO
PREVENT HAZARDOUS CONCENTRATIONS OF FLAMMABLE GAS OR ACID MIST
DESIGN CRITERIA FOR VENTILATION SYSTEMS
Protective Gloves:GLOVES APPROVED FOR SULFURIC ACID.
Eye Protection:CHEMICAL GOGGLES, FULL FACE SHIELD.
